IRI Building First Field-Level Security Product for Files

FieldShield Will Protect Sensitive Data on Unix and Windows

Melbourne, Fla. (May 13, 2009) – Innovative Routines International (IRI), Inc., a leading developer of big data manipulation software, announced it will deliver the field-level protection functions now available in its flagship CoSort package in a specialized utility for the information security industry called FieldShield. FieldShield is being developed to meet the growing need for data loss (breach) prevention and data privacy law compliance for users with data at rest in flat files.

"FieldShield will allow privacy-conscious companies and government agencies to apply data- and role-based security functions like encryption, masking, and pseudonymization to sensitive data at the field level," explained IRI technical director Rob Howard. "FieldShield will be the only Unix and Windows product on the market designed to protect personally identifying information (PII) like names, addresses, social security numbers, credit card numbers, phone numbers, and medical conditions that are stored in sequential files, he added."

Supported file types will include CSV (and other delimited formats), fixed position, LDIF, MF-ISAM, MFVL, Variable Block, Vision and flat XML files.FieldShield will protect data in standard character, binary, or multi-byte formats.

The first release, Version 1.1, is a command-line scripting tool that uses CoSort SortCL data definitions."CoSort, mainframe, and SQL users will appreciate how easy job scripts are to build since the 4GL syntax is so familiar and explicit," said Howard. Because FieldShield operates in the same language, it also supports third-party metadata repositories compatible with The Meta Integration Model Bridge (MIMB).

FieldShield will also create an optional XML audit trail to help users verify compliance with privacy regulations.

FieldShield will be licensed in 2010 for perpetual use on all Unix and Windows systems, and discounted in distributed environments. For more information, emailfieldshield@iri.com.
