There are two editions of CellShield: CellShield Personal Edition (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/products\/cellshield\/cellshield-addin\">PE<\/a>), and CellShield Enterprise Edition (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/products\/cellshield\/cellshield-ee\">EE<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>CellShield version 2.0 introduces a myriad of new features, fixes, and improvements over the previous version, 1.7. This article is split into the new features\/improvements for CellShield PE and EE. All new features included in PE are also included in EE. However, the new features in EE are not included in PE.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>New in CellShield PE &amp; EE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"color: grey;\">UTF-8 Support<\/h5>\n<p>The full UTF-8 character set is now supported for all data protection functions, except format preserving encryption\/decryption. However, the other encryption and decryption algorithms include UTF-8 support, as do pseudonymization, and string masking (redaction).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-allunicode.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13959 aligncenter\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-allunicode-1024x554.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-allunicode-1024x554.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-allunicode-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-allunicode-768x416.png 768w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-allunicode.png 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">All menus in CellShield now support non-ASCII UTF-8 characters.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"color: grey;\">Encryption and Decryption of Formulas<\/h5>\n<p>Encryption and decryption of formulas is now possible from the encryption and decryption menus, available in both CellShield PE and EE.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-fprotect2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13961 \" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-fprotect2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"651\" height=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-fprotect2.png 798w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-fprotect2-300x217.png 300w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-fprotect2-768x554.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 651px) 100vw, 651px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"color: grey;\">Full-Sheet Protection<\/h5>\n<p>A new <b>Autoprotect <\/b>menu has been added for simpler protection of Excel sheets. One file at a time can be selected in CellShield PE, or one or more Excel sheets, files, and directories (recursively or non-recursively) in CellShield EE<b>. <\/b>This feature dispenses with details like type of encryption, passphrase, or obfuscating characters to protect <i>all data<\/i> in the sheet using default encryption or redaction methods.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, the <i>pattern encrypt option <\/i>will encrypt only the data in cells that match the selected patterns in the \u201clist box\u201d, a scrollable and selectable box containing the list of patterns located in the bottom left corner of the form. Patterns can be selected or deselected in bulk with the <b>select\/deselect all<\/b> <b>checkbox.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>Pattern decrypt<\/i> will be able to reverse all data encrypted by pattern encrypt into the original text. A custom pattern list can also be uploaded to use in pattern encrypt, and only selected patterns from the list box will be used when doing pattern encrypt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-aprotect.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13962 aligncenter\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-aprotect.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-aprotect.png 740w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-aprotect-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"color: grey;\">Selected Range Optimizations<\/h5>\n<p>For menus that require data to be selected in the worksheet (including the <b>Encrypt &amp; Decrypt<\/b>, <b>Mask (Redact)<\/b>, and <b>Pseudonymize &amp; Restore<\/b> menus), range optimizations have been made so that when selecting a whole column or worksheet, excess empty cells will be cut out.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>New in CellShield EE Only<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"color: grey;\">Logging functionality<\/h5>\n<p>Previously, masking (remediation) actions were logged only to a column in the EIF<span id='easy-footnote-1-13947' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/data-protection\/cellshield-version-2\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-13947' title='The EIF sheet, or Excel Interchange File, is produced from data-class-based spreadsheet searches performed by the Dark Data Search\/Masking Wizard. This wizard is launched from the &lt;a href=&quot;https:\/\/www.iri.com\/products\/darkshield&quot;&gt;IRI DarkShield&lt;\/a&gt; menu in &lt;a href=&quot;https:\/\/www.iri.com\/products\/workbench&quot;&gt;IRI Workbench&lt;\/a&gt;, which installs separately. The EIF file, when open in Excel, reveals the results of specified search criteria in multiple sheets, and supports bulk remediation for applying consistent masking functions to every sheet. '><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> worksheet. Now, error messages and their details, and audit logs from Bulk Remediation jobs, will be logged if auditing is confirmed when importing an EIF file.<\/p>\n<p>A logging menu has been added with submenus: <b>Logging settings<\/b> and <b>Export to log<\/b>. The settings menu allows for a more interactive customization of log settings, which are saved in a file named <b>appsettings.json<\/b>. Alternatively, that JSON file can be edited directly in a text editor for even more customization than the logging settings menu provides.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logging-setting-form.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13963 aligncenter\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logging-setting-form.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logging-setting-form.png 894w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logging-setting-form-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logging-setting-form-768x442.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>The Email tab in the Logging Settings form allows you to configure sending logs to an email address.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The <b>export to log<\/b> menu allows for a selection of cells from within Excel to be logged, such as an audit report.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logexport.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13964 aligncenter\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logexport-1024x665.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"653\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logexport-1024x665.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logexport-300x195.png 300w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logexport-768x499.png 768w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-logexport.png 1329w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>The Export to Log menu allows for a selected range to be logged with a selected logging level to all logging sources properly specified in the appsettings.json file.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Where Can Logs Be Sent?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Logs can be sent to any location in the file system, through email, to Datadog, or to Splunk. Specific parameters such as API key (for Datadog) must be specified in the <b>appsettings.json <\/b>file for the logging to work properly for each source.<\/p>\n<p>This JSON file should be placed in the directory specified by the %<b>CELLSHIELD_HOME<\/b>% environment variable (by default C:\\IRI\\Cellshield).<span id='easy-footnote-2-13947' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/data-protection\/cellshield-version-2\/#easy-footnote-bottom-2-13947' title='A default appsettings.json skeleton file is shipped with CellShield EE, and can also be regenerated at any time by pressing a button in the logging settings form called \u201cRestore Default Log\u201d.'><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"color: grey;\"><strong>New Intracellular Protections and Features<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Also new in CellShield EE is the ability in intracell searches to encrypt and pseudonymize data matching specified by patterns (and decrypt or restore them to the original values). Previously, only string masking (redaction) was supported with intra-cell searches.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-icencryptpartial2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13965 aligncenter\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-icencryptpartial2-1024x502.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-icencryptpartial2-1024x502.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-icencryptpartial2-300x147.png 300w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-icencryptpartial2-768x377.png 768w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-icencryptpartial2.png 1390w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>Intracellular search allows for discovery and protection of sensitive data matching patterns be it \u201cfloating\u201d or \u201cnon-floating\u201d inside cells<\/i><\/p>\n<p>New patterns can now be added to the default common patterns list. In the intracell search menu, click on the <b>Modify Patterns <\/b>button to access this menu. Specify the pattern name, a description of the pattern, and the pattern itself (a regular expression or word) to be searched.<\/p>\n<p>The list of custom patterns is viewable in the bottom panel of the form after adding; these patterns can be removed as desired. The pattern is added to the list of patterns in the intracell search menu after clicking the <b>Add Pattern to List <\/b>button, and the <b>Exit and Save<\/b> button.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-patternadd.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13966 aligncenter\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-patternadd.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"484\" height=\"713\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-patternadd.png 484w, https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/cellshield-v2-patternadd-204x300.png 204w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 484px) 100vw, 484px\" \/><\/a> The <i>Modify Patterns<\/i> menu allows a user to set up custom patterns to be saved and loaded\u00a0 for use into the intracell search menu.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"color: grey;\"><b>Graphed Results of Bulk Search and Masking Jobs<\/b><\/h5>\n<p>Helpful visualizations can now appear in Excel when running \u201cbulk remediate\u201d from the \u201cImport EIF\u201d menu. The new graphs provide visual insight into the data being protected and include: top sheet locations of sensitive data values by count, top data values protected by count, and top data matchers found by count.<\/p>\n<p>The top sheet locations of sensitive data values, and the top data matchers found by count, are created automatically after the import of the EIF file is complete. It shows the most frequently protected values in green.<\/i><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"color: grey;\"><b>More Robust Bulk Remediations<\/b><\/h5>\n<p>Many multi-sheet masking jobs will see performance enhanced significantly.
