Users of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/products\/voracity\">IRI Voracity<\/a>\u00a0platform\u00a0can now simultaneously <strong>process<\/strong>\u00a0big data from any number of sources <em>and<\/em> <strong>present<\/strong> customized trend lines\u00a0to help business users make predictions.<\/p>\n<p>Linear regression expands on previously covered analytic or preparatory capabilities\u00a0in constituent Voracity technology, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/business-intelligence\/predictive-analytics-finding-future-big-data\/\">prediction<\/a>\u00a0using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/data-transformation2\/standard-deviation-cosort-sortcl-aggregation\/\">standard deviation<\/a>\u00a0in IRI CoSort<\/li>\n<li>unstructured data <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/business-intelligence\/nextform-prepares-unstructured-data-splunk-indexing\/\">packaging<\/a>\u00a0for Splunk in IRI Workbench<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/data-protection\/iri-workbench-pentaho-perform-data-masking\/\">protection<\/a>\u00a0of PII for Pentaho in IRI FieldShield<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This article (and embedded video) demonstrates how to simultaneously perform\u00a0regression analysis using the \u201cquick_stats\u201d field function in the CoSort <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/products\/cosort\/sortcl\">SortCL<\/a>\u00a0program, and generate\u00a0a .pdf report with confidence intervals on x-y value pairs using\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/business-intelligence\/iri-data-source-birt\/\">BIRT<\/a>\u00a0in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iri.com\/products\/workbench\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRI Workbench GUI<\/a>\u00a0(built on Eclipse) and a\u00a0Boost C++ library function.\u00a0A planned update or alternative to this article will feature <em>another<\/em> graphical approach to predictive analytics in IRI Workbench using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/blog\/business-intelligence\/voracity-knime-node\/\">Voracity data provider for KNIME<\/a> along with connected decision tree learning and analytics nodes.<\/p>\n<p>The auto-generated report provides a base set of statistics about the x and y values at the time the entire data set is ingested.\u00a0Thus\u00a0&#8216;big&#8217; source data integration and calculation are running\u00a0simultaneously with the visualization of those results &#8230; and all in the same &#8220;pane of glass&#8221; controlling both data processing\u00a0and presentation. This name will have the date and time appended upon creation. (ie. &#8220;FILENAME_2016-01-04_11.45.30&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>Argument 4 &#8211; X-AXIS LABEL you want on the graph (ie. &#8220;X_AXIS_LABEL&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>Argument 5 &#8211; Y-AXIS LABEL you want on the graph (ie. &#8220;Y_AXIS_LABEL&#8221;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The linear regression line and all statistics contained within the report are calculated from the entire data-set. \u00a0Do to report size limitations, a maximum of 1000 points are displayed on the graph. \u00a0So, if 1,000,000 x-y value pairs are passed into the function, every one is used in calculations, though a random 1000 are displayed on the graph.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Preparation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because this function is new, there are a few steps you must take to make it work:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>In IRI Workbench, create a new IRI Project named \u201cRepo\u201d from the New toolbar.<\/li>\n<li>Download the latest BIRT Runtime Release Build from the <a href=\"http:\/\/download.eclipse.org\/birt\/downloads\/\">BIRT download page<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Unzip the BIRT Runtime Release Build zip file into a temporary location.<\/li>\n<li>Copy the folder <em>ReportEngine<\/em>\u00a0from inside the temporary location into the root of the drive that IRI software is installed on. Creating <em>C:\\ReportEngine<\/em> for a default installation of CoSort.<\/li>\n<li>Download <em>quick_stats.zip<\/em> from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iri.com\/download\/1ef6660481462f1248b0ad9db47d3b5c259d7a76\">IRI Website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Unzip <em>quick_states.zip<\/em> into your CoSort install directory, <em>C:\\IRI\\CoSort95<\/em> by default.<\/li>\n<li>Copy all the files from the <em>examples\\quick_stats_example_files<\/em>\u00a0folder unzipped from\u00a0<em>quick_stats.zip<\/em>\u00a0into the Repo project that\u00a0you created in Step 1.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>BIRT Report Designer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To customize the report, you must have the BIRT Report Designer plugin installed in the IRI Workbench (Eclipse) GUI.
