Melbourne, Fla. (June 27, 2013) – Innovative Routines International (IRI), Inc., a long-time leader in big data transformation and data-centric protection technology, is confirming a significant performance improvement method for users of MicroStrategy’s Business Intelligence platform. When IRI’s CoSort® is used to stage the source data first, MicroStrategy generates report outputs in half the time.

Premanandham (“Prem”) Govindaraju, a Sr. BI architect at Unisoft Infotech in Singapore, demonstrated how CoSort prepares, or franchises, huge table and file data for MicroStrategy in a single job script and I/O pass. “CoSort’s processing of the raw data was completed with incredible speed in the file system, and doubled the throughput of the overall BI process,” Prem observed.

In Prem’s benchmark, a report requiring the sorting, joining, and aggregation of two data sources (100MB and 50MB files) took MicroStrategy 193 seconds to complete on an Intel® Core™ i3 CPU 380 @ 2.53GHz running Windows. When CoSort transformed the data first, however, the subsets were available to MicroStrategy in 23 seconds. MicroStrategy then needed another 77 seconds to present that data in the same report, but the total processing time (to produce the same report on the same data) was only 100 seconds.

Athena Solutions founder and DW/BI expert Rick Sherman — who defined “data franchising” in 2003 — explained that BI tools benefit from pre-filtering, sorting, joining, aggregation, and reformatting. “BI tools are not designed to handle the big data transformations typical of huge transaction files and database tables. CoSort is, and produces the hand-offs in CSV and XML subsets that BI tools can digest.”

The relative cost of CoSort in a MicroStrategy environment is nominal. Moreover, according to Sherman, “the use of low cost data franchising software like CoSort helps enterprises leverage big data analytics for business ROI that much faster.”
