CoSort Speeds Informatica ETL Performance 6X
Melbourne, Fla. (April 25, 2013) – Innovative Routines International (IRI), Inc., a leading developer of big data transformation and data-centric protection software, is announcing the results from a recent independent study showing a significant performance improvement using CoSort® to transform large input data for the Informatica PowerCenter® ETL environment.
A Senior Data Warehouse architect with PowerCenter expertise demonstrated that CoSort dramatically improves the throughput of PowerCenter ETL operations when the two products run together. In the trial, CoSort’s 4GL SortCL provided the engine to sort, join and aggregate data in a single pass. This "pushdown optimization" step improved the results for Informatica users six-fold and it removed the overhead of data transformation from the ETL, DB and BI layers.
In this benchmark, a two-source sort, join, and aggregation project was created and run natively in PowerCenter on Windows. The native task time was 94 seconds. But when those same transforms were run using CoSort, the same results were available to PowerCenter in 16 seconds.
Equivalent transforms are defined in a single SortCL (4GL text) job script, which can be created in the IRI Workbench GUI built on Eclipse™. Once the script is created, the GUI is no longer required. Job execution is controlled via a "Command Task" in PowerCenter.
"The results of this study demonstrate the benefit of using a dedicated off-line engine to perform routine high volume data management tasks," said David Friedland, VP of Business Development at IRI. "CoSort can operate alone or in conjunction with other applications to get big data transformation done far faster, seamlessly, and at a marginal cost factor."
CoSort is now a proven pushdown optimization option for Informatica, with significant time and/or cost savings over the official Oracle and Teradata options. For more information on the benchmark, and inquire about a free trial, see the blog: Informatica Pushdown Optimization with CoSort.
